Popular Hearing in The Hague, Demonstrations and Activities in Palestine and Internationally
PENGON/The Anti-Apartheid Wall Campaign, in coordination with the Stop the Wall Coalition in the Netherlands, and United Civilians for Peace, will be organizing a Popular Hearing in The Hague on February 21, two days prior to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) hearing. The Campaign, through the Popular Hearing, would like to create a grassroots forum in The Hague which will contribute to greater public and media understanding of the ICJ’s procedures and the legal issues surrounding the Wall. While the ICJ procedures are closed to the public and limited even for the media, the Campaign’s Popular Hearing will allow public participation and discussion around the illegality of the Wall and will serve as a focal point for greater awareness raising, activism, and lobbying against the Wall, including an action plan for lobbying around the ICJ opinion. A demonstration in The Hague will also take place and an information center set-up to disseminate information for groups, individuals, and media.
Throughout the same weekend, leading up to the ICJ hearing, activities and demonstrations will be taking place throughout Palestine by affected villages and communities who have been devastated by the Wall. Additional “Popular Hearings” as well as other activities are currently being planned in cities in Italy, Turkey, Spain and France.
